In a shareholders meeting on Monday, Disney CEO Bob Iger said crews are putting the “final touches” on the attraction, which is inspired by the 2016 animated film “Moana.”
“This interactive trail will give our guests the opportunity to discover the key role water plays in our world just as Moana did,” Iger said.
The attraction will feature interactive elements such as fountains and a 16-foot-tall figure of Te Fiti, the goddess character from the film.
Journey of Water is expected to open later this year in the park’s World Nature neighborhood, an area that also includes The Land and The Seas with Nemo & Friends pavilions.
The attraction, according to Iger, will also mark the completion of EPCOT’s multi-year transformation. The renovation has included new attractions such as Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, a reimagined entrance plaza, new shops, and new restaurants.
Other previously-announced additions such as the Play! Pavilion and a Mary Poppins-inspired attraction appear to be off the table.
