Students were able to spend time with Imagineers who have worked on attractions at Disney World, including the new TRON Lightcycle Run opening next month at Magic Kingdom.

After hearing from Imagineers about their backgrounds and the projects they’ve worked on, students were given a chance to work on their own project during the career workshop.

Students, divided into teams, were tasked with designing and building their own marble run using a process similar to what Walt Disney Imagineering uses for its projects.

With the help of Imagineers, students had to create the marble run using recycled and everyday materials—and stay within their budget.

The workshop, held at the convention center at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, was one of several “career deep dives” offered to students. Other sessions covered topics in filmmaking and storytelling, fashion and technology.

A total of 100 students—selected from thousands of applicants—are participating in the Disney Dreamers Academy this week.

The mentoring program, which began in 2008, is designed to broaden career awareness and create opportunities for Black students and teens from underrepresented communities.

The four-day event runs through March 26.
