- ICON Park said technicians are inspecting components to determine what caused the outage
The International Drive attraction, which has been closed since New Year’s Eve after a power failure led to more than 60 riders being evacuated, recently has been undergoing testing.
In a statement, ICON Park said technicians have been “inspecting thousands of components” to determine what caused the 400-foot observation wheel to lose power. Crews are also working with Duke Energy and industry experts on upgrades to “prevent another power outage.”
Part of the continued maintenance on The Wheel includes light testing, which could be seen Saturday night when the attraction partially lit up.
A reopening date has not yet been announced for The Wheel.
“This work is time-consuming and hindered by current supply-chain issues,” ICON Park said in a statement. “After our process and inspections are complete, and then state inspectors approve, The Wheel will reopen.”
