- Universal said Monsters Cafe was closed to make way for a new dining experience
The quick-service restaurant, which had been in operation since 1998, was closed to “make way for a new dining experience,” Universal said.
No details were shared about the dining experience replacing it.
Monsters Cafe, located in the Production Central section of Universal Studios, was themed to Universal’s classic monsters such as Frankenstein and Dracula. It also featured props and posters from films such as “The Mummy,” “The Wolf Man,” and “The Creature from the Black Lagoon.”
The restaurant offered a menu with combo meals such as chicken and ribs with homestyle sides such as mac n cheese and apple cobbler. Monsters Cafe also offered a number of vegan options.
The restaurant was itself a revamp of the park's former Studio Stars restaurant, which featured memorabilia from Hollywood’s golden age.
Monsters Cafe follows a number of closures at Universal Studios. Universal officially closed Fear Factor Live last fall, and earlier this year, it closed its long-running Shrek 4-D attraction.
