Earl the Squirrel will begin meet-and-greets at Universal Studios Florida on Dec. 11. The character will be wearing a festive holiday sweater with the words “I Love Acorns” on it.
Although this the first time Earl has appeared as a costumed character, he’s hardly a new addition at Universal.
Earl's origins began several years ago. As legend would have it, the Universal Orlando entertainment team found an actual squirrel in the park’s Christmas tree. The squirrel was known to steal strands of Christmas lights to take them back to his nest.
In the years since, Earl has become a mascot of sorts during the holiday season. Universal has paid tribute to the squirrel by placing a toy version in its Christmas tree. There has also been Earl-themed merchandise, including a dedicated section in this year's Holiday Tribute Store.
The costumed Earl the Squirrel will be available for meet-and-greets on select days through Jan. 2.
Universal’s holiday celebration, which also wraps Jan. 2, includes Universal’s Holiday Parade featuring Macy’s, Grinchmas stage show, holiday decorations and more.
