The update was part of a virtual news conference Disney held Thursday morning.
With this new timeline, it appears the attraction will open during Disney World’s 18-month-long celebration for its 50th anniversary. Earlier this month, Disney Imagineer Zach Riddley said the attraction will nearing “the final stages.”
The highly-anticipated attraction, located in the newly-designated area of World Discovery, will bring to Epcot the “other world” showcase pavilion, where visitors will learn about the planet Xandar.
Cosmic Rewind will also feature a new ride system that allows vehicles to rotate 360 degrees and direct riders toward the action. The coaster will also have a reverse launch.
On Wednesday, Disney allowed invited members of the media to go inside the coaster building for a sneak peek at the attraction. The preview included a look at the massive coaster tracks as well as practical props and projection screens for the attraction.
Just got a sneak peek at Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. No pictures or video allowed, but we were taken into the show building to see the track. Also saw some other visual elements including a large object that looked like a planet with craters.
