ORLANDO, Fla. – Some Disney World visitors were able to see a zebra birth at Disney’s Animal Kingdom on Monday.

A male Hartmann’s mountain zebra was born on the savanna portion of the park’s Kilimanjaro Safaris attraction.
Visitors riding the attraction at the time were able to get a glimpse of the birth as well as see the foal take his first steps minutes later.
The baby zebra is estimated to weigh 65 pounds. Mom Heidi and the baby zebra are now backstage bonding. They will rejoin the herd at the attraction in the coming weeks, Disney said.
The zebra’s birth is part of the Species Survival Plan program, which is overseen by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
In 2019, some guests visiting the park were able to see a giraffe being born at Kilimanjaro Safaris. The attraction was temporarily closed while the birth was happening.
