ORLANDO, Fla. — International Drive's ICON Park entertainment complex will debut two new attractions this summer that are being billed as the world's tallest of their kinds: a slingshot ride and a drop tower.
What You Need To Know
- Slingshot and Drop Tower opening at ICON Park summer 2021
- Both are being billed as the tallest of their kinds in the world
- Operator plans to open a Slingshot at Margaritaville Resort Orlando
The two attractions had been previously announced, but the complex said in a news release Monday that it's now targeting summer 2021 for the debuts of the attractions, called Slingshot and Drop Tower.
The complex did not release an exact opening date.
ICON Park is already home to The Wheel, a large observation wheel that can be seen for miles in the tourist district of metro Orlando, and the Starflyer, a 450-foot-tall swing ride. Other attractions at the complex include Madame Tussauds Orlando and Sealife Orlando Aquarium. The Slingshot Group of Companies operates Starflyer and will operate the two new attractions.
The Slingshot will be 300 feet tall, launching two riders about 450 feet straight up as they reach speeds of up to 100 mph, according to the operator. The Drop Tower's ride vehicle will rotate 30 riders around the 430-foot tower as it climbs over I-Drive. When it reaches the top, it will tilt forward 30 degrees and face the ground for a brief moment before free-falling almost 400 feet at speeds of up to 75 mph.
The Slingshot Group said in the news release that it's expected to open a Slingshot attraction at Margaritaville Resort Orlando in December 2021.
