Carr teaches math, reading, science, social studies and health to first-graders at Dr. Phillips Elementary School in Orlando.

"So I am a third-generation teacher,” she said. “…. My mom and grandmother are both educators. I did not think this was the career path that I wanted at all, watching all the things that they go through."

But that changed during high school while she was working as a life guard teaching swim lessons.

"I worked from infant to six months old with mommy and me all the way up to grown adults who had this fear of water, and I fell in love with the teaching process there,” Carr said. “That's when I started thinking maybe this is something that I wanted to do."

With four years of teaching now under her belt, she loves seeing her students grow.

"The process of taking what they know, their knowledge, and building upon that to getting them to where they need to be is the best part of the profession,” Carr said. “You really have to have a passion for education and for the process - taking the students from knowing this to helping them grow to reach their full potential. It is very rewarding."
