DALLAS — Mike McCarthy is reportedly moving on from the Dallas Cowboys. Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported on Monday morning that McCarthy will enter coaching free agency after Cowboys and McCarthy couldn’t agree on the length of a new contract. McCarthy’s contract expired Jan. 8 and the Cowboys have an exclusive negotiation window through Tuesday, but the parties decided to split ahead of the deadline.
McCarthy is expected to draw interest from multiple teams still looking for a head coach, with the Chicago Bears and New Orleans Saints topping the list. McCarthy finished his tenure in Dallas with a 49-35 record over five seasons, while struggling in the playoffs with a 1-3 postseason record.
