The entire three story building's AC system was the casualty.
Although crews worked around the clock over the weekend, the second and third floors of city hall won’t open until Tuesday.
"It took out an entire building; lightning can do some freak things, but it's all going to get fixed, and we'll be up and running in no time," said Chris Graham, communications specialist.
Portable air conditioning units were rolled in throughout the day. Ten were placed on the first floor, and five on the second and third floors.
The city has extended current utility bill due dates through Wednesday to give them some extra time to deal with the closure.
