Every Thursday morning, Webber sits at the front of the Lane Purcell Hospice House in Sumterville. Webber began volunteering with Cornerstone Hospice and Palliative Care in spring 1987, when she was visiting with hospice patients in nursing homes in both Lake and Sumter counties, cooking meals and helping the hospice team.
"It's been a pleasure for me to be a volunteer and then to have someone think that that’s very special, it didn’t seem special to me," Webber said.
But the employees she works with thought so and recently honored Webber for her 30 years of volunteer service. Webber says she hopes to volunteer for another five years, when she turns 100 years old.
"Anytime you can make a person smile is wonderful," she said.
Webber also volunteers at a soup kitchen in Wildwood and was a “pink lady” with the Leesburg Regional Medical Center Auxiliary.
