The Hawaii men’s volleyball team experienced a sweep reversal of fortunes on Saturday.

After succumbing to No. 9 Cal State Northridge in a straight-sets stunner on Friday night, the No. 5 Rainbow Warriors responded 24 hours later with a 25-18, 25-21, 29-27 dismissal of the Matadors at Premier America Credit Union Arena in Northridge, Calif.

UH (22-3, 5-1 Big West) walked it off on Kurt Nusterer’s net-tickling ace, the team’s fourth match point. Now Charlie Wade’s group prepares for its marquee home series of the season, two matches against No. 1 Long Beach State (23-1, 5-1) on Friday and Saturday.

The Saturday contest is sold out — the 14th in program history at the Stan Sheriff Center — and a smattering of tickets remained for Friday as of midday Sunday.

However, there was concern after the match for freshman opposite Kristian Titriyski, who hurt his right ankle on an awkward landing under the net on UH’s first match point. Clay Wieter subbed in for the Bulgarian for the remaining points.

Titriyski led UH with 12 kills on .350 hitting.

Jalen Phillips led CSUN (16-8, 1-5) with 16 kills. The Matadors hit just .164 after going off for .507 on Friday, a season high for a UH foe.

The ‘Bows dialed up eight aces on Saturday compared to one on Friday.

CSUN nearly prolonged the match by a set after erasing three match points from down 23-20 to lead 24-23. UH had to fend off three set points and setter Tread Rosenthal put down a kill to allow Nusterer to walk it off at the service line.

Nusterer supplied eight kills for UH, which hit .342.
