BELLEAIR, Fla. — Want to empower a room mostly filled with women? Bring in someone that has experience with an entire women’s sports movement. Caitlin Clark joined the GOAT Annika Sorenstam on stage at the Women’s Leadership Summit at the Pelican Golf Club in Belleair.
The Summit is one of the many events that leads up to Thursday’s first round of The Annika. Clark will be participating in Wednesday’s Pro-Am. But first she inspired a room full of women.
“We’re real humans too and we’re driven by the same thing they are, maybe just achieving things a little bit differently,” Clark said.
Clark achieved a lot in her WNBA rookie season with the Indiana Fever. She helped lead the Fever to the playoffs while driving up attendance and TV ratings and earning Rookie of the Year honors. Now she’s at The Annika, serving as one of the tournament’s ambassadors and offering up some words of wisdom to the Summit guests.
“You felt the energy in the room,” Clark said. “The amount of women sitting in there and so passionate about being a leader in their space, whether it was sport, business, whatever it is. I think that was what’s so cool about it. Obviously getting to sit next to Annika on stage was pretty special for myself.”
Getting two icons together in one setting was special. And it’s what sets The Annika apart from other LPGA Tour stops. Annika Sorenstam wants her tournament to be so much more than just the golf. At the end of the day, she wants to inspire. And that’s what this summit did.
“We have our journeys but you can still learn and improve and keep moving,” Annika said. “I think that the Summit is really a fun way to bring in some women that are successful in their industry, but they like to hear from other women. Everybody walked away, and they were so energized and just ready to keep ongoing.”
