TITUSVILLE, Fla — As the high school soccer season begins, there is plenty of talent returning to the pitch in Central Florida.
Titusville’s Brooke Voorhees is one player looking to capitalize on a deep playoff in her senior year. It’s something she has been working towards since she was 5 years-old.

“I like how competitive it is because I have been a very competitive person but it keeps me active all the time,” said Voorhees.

Being active on the pitch feeds into one of her strengths, her versatility.

“I play multiple positions actually,” she said. “I usually play mid-field but I also play forward or outside back.”

That versatility helped her get a chance to play at the next level. Earlier this year, she verbally committed to play at Stetson University in Deland and there are many reasons it was the place for her.

“It’s a very pretty campus. I love all the facilities and the coaching staff is amazing,” said Voorhees. “It’s very small, and it’s really close to home.”

And what Stetson’s coaching staff liked about Brooke’s game is her vast knowledge about the sport.

“I’m very technical on the ball I say and I have very good IQ, so I know when to pass the ball and when to keep the ball and when to shoot the ball,” she said.

Brooke led Titusville and had 25 goals last year on a team that won 12 games. But this year’s team will have a new feel to it. They graduated 10 seniors from last year, so Brooke will be looked to be a team leader.

“I feel like I do have a very big leadership role just because I have been playing for a long time and because I have been on varsity all 4 years,” said Voorhees. “It makes me feel pretty good, but it also makes me fell I have a lot of responsibilities.”

“I take it pretty well. I don’t feel that I get super nervous of anything because I am very comfortable with the sport,” she said.

And she sees soccer always being a part of her life. When Brooke steps on campus next year, she knows what she wants to study.

“I plan on going college to study athletic training or physical therapy, so being around the sport still and going into that career would be great so I can be around the sport as long as possible,” said Voorhees.
