ORLANDO, Fla. — Orlando Magic fans won't have to wait long to learn a little bit about the team's new draft picks.

Anthony Black and Jett Howard will be introduced at a news conference Friday afternoon.

Fans at the team's draft party watched on Thursday night as the team picked Black, a guard from Arkansas, with its No. 6 pick in the NBA Draft.

In a statement after the pick, the Magic noted that Black started in all 36 games last season as a freshman at the University of Arkansas, averaging 12.8 points per game, 5.1 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 2.06 steals, and 34.8 minutes of play.

"Black led the Razorbacks and SEC in minutes played, while setting Arkansas freshman records in games played, games started, minutes played (1,253), steals (74) and free throw attempts (190)," the Magic's statement said. "He was the only player in the SEC to rank in the top 25 in scoring, rebounding, assists, steals and blocked shots."

With its No. 11 pick, the Magic selected Howard, who averaged 14.2 points per game, 2.8 rebounds, 2 assists and 31.7 minutes at the University of Michigan last season.

"He was named to the 2022-23 All-Big Ten Third Team (media), as well as the 2022-23 All-Big Ten Freshman Team," the Magic said in a statement. "Howard led the Wolverines in three-pointers made. He scored in double figures 23 times, 20+ points four times and 30+ points once, including a career-high 34 points on Jan. 12 @ Iowa."

Howard is also the son of former All-Star forward Juwan Howard, who was his coach at Michigan.

The draft started at 8 p.m. at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., and thousands of Magic fans gathered at Orlando's draft party at Amway Center starting to follow along.

Orlando selected Connecticut guard Andre Jackson Jr. with its No. 36 spot, in the second round. It later traded the draft rights to Jackson to the Milwaukee Bucks for a second-round pick in 2030 and cash considerations.

The Magic had given no indications who they were considering, though they conceded that they would like to improve the team’s 3-point shooting. Black shot 30.1% from behind the arc at Arkansas, and Howard went 36.8%.
