KISSIMMEE, Fla. — The Orlando Magic will move their G League franchise from Lakeland to Kissimmee and rename the team the Osceola Magic, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Partner Alex Martins announced Tuesday.

What You Need To Know

  • The Orlando Magic's G League team will start playing in Kissimmee next season

  • Their games will be at Silver Spurs Arena in Osceola Heritage Park

  • The move will put the franchise closer to Orlando for call-ups and travel

  • The club had played in Lakeland since the 2017-18 season

The team will play its games at Silver Spurs Arena in Osceola Heritage Park starting in November 2023.

The G League team had played at the Lakeland Civic Center since the 2017-18 season and captured a championship in 2021. The relocation will put the club even closer to the Orlando franchise, so it will be easier for players, coaches and executives traveling between the teams. It also brings the team closer to Magic fans in Orlando.

The G League is the NBA’s official developmental league, preparing players, coaches, officials, trainers and front-office staff for NBA careers, and it also is used to test changes the NBA is considering.

The NBA G League features 30 teams — 28 with one-to-one affiliations with NBA franchises.

In the 2022-23 season, seven members of the Orlando Magic spent time in the G League with their affiliate (R.J. Hampton, Kevon Harris, Caleb Houstan, Jonathan Isaac, Chuma Okeke, Admiral Schofield and Jay Scrubb). This past season, 49 G League players earned NBA call-ups. In total, more than 700 different players have received call-ups from their NBA teams.
