DAYTONA BEACH, Fla — Practicing the game in December is a privilege. Senior quarterback Damarcus Creecy led the Mainland offensive attack with the win over Jenson Beach, winning 45-10 in the regional finals.

"It feels really good to be playing this late in the year, it’s my first time trying to enjoy it a little bit," said Creecy.

But his smarts on the field equals what he does in the classroom.

"Success in the classroom, 4.2 GPA, his smarts translate to the football field," said head coach Travis Rowland. "Just does a good job getting people lined up in the right play so a lot of things translate off the field in the classroom and on the field."

Damarcus has been playing football for 12 years, but only moved to quarterback in his freshman year of high school. It’s a position he enjoys playing, but knows there is a lot of responsibility at that position.

"t’s a blessing and a curse at the same time," said Creecy. "Mess ups can get blamed on you but you get all the glory too."

What helps Damarcus is the talent on the offensive side of the ball.

"He enjoys getting the ball to those guys and having success with those guys." said Rowland. "This is the first time he has been around big time receivers like this and he has done a great job with it."

"Just takes a lot of stress off of me and I can deliver the ball to who ever is open at that time," said Creecy.

Damarcus has improved his athleticism this year. Something that could help him reach the next level.

"For the most part most thought he was purely a passer," said Rowland. "A lot of the college guys who we have talked to wanted to see if he could run, I think he has shown that a lot this year, maybe at times too much."

Coach says the sky is the limit for Damarcus in football.

"With the way quarterbacks are changing in the NFL and college level, he can go as far and deep as he wants," said Rowland.
