ORLANDO, Fla. - Olympia boys basketball has started the season undefeated and one of the reasons is because of their leading scorer who has a familiar face and name.

Point guard Edgerrin "Jizzle" James Jr. leads the team with 25.8 points per game to start the season as the Titans have started with an 8-0 record.

"I’ve been playing basketball since I was 3, so it's just the love of the game and I have been playing it for a long time," said James. "I’m a winner, so I do whatever I need to win and this year I had to take a bigger scoring role because we lost 2 big scorers last year, so I’m doing what ever my team needs me to do to win."

"From a standpoint of scoring the ball, he is scoring a little bit more this year," said 5th year head coach at Olympia Rob Gordon. "I think that is where is role is just evolving."

His teammates and coaches call him "Jizzle", a nickname he received from his father as a kid. "I have the same name as my dad so growing up he gave me the nickname to go by," said James.

His dad is NFL Hall of Famer Edgerrin James who played 11 seasons for Indianapolis Colts, Arizona Colts and Seattle Seahawks

"He has helped me with everything, he has put me in the right position to be great. Always have me with the right people, make sure I am focused and never get off track, always keep my head straight," said James.

His scoring as increased this season and so have the college scholarship offers.

"It’s a blessing that people are starting to realize that I can play," said James. "Just to learn about the recruiting process but it’s been good."

"He has a Division 1 body, his skill set is continuing to get better and better," said Gordon. "I think he has the chance to be pretty special, he is already pretty special but in terms of the next level, he has a chance to be a special basketball player."
