LOS ANGELES (CNS) — Fans had their first opportunity to experience a series of improvements to Dodger Stadium at Friday's home opener, including the creation of Centerfield Plaza and renovations to the Left and Right Field Pavilions.
Other improvements include bridges to connect the new pavilion standing room decks to the rest of the stadium, and a new sound system.
The Dodgers are billing the new centerfield entrance as "a front door for Dodger Stadium," giving fans the opportunity to enjoy its unique food offerings, entertainment and children's areas and retail locations, before moving to their seats via elevators, escalators, bridges and stairs.
The two-acre landscaped Centerfield Plaza includes video and LED boards. The statue of Jackie Robinson was moved from the Left Field Reserve to Centerfield Plaza, where it joins a statue of Sandy Koufax and the "Legends of Dodger Baseball" plaques.
There is a children's play area beyond the center field wall covered by netting so it can be used by fans during the game.
Renovations to the Left and Right Field Pavilions include new restrooms, air-conditioned sports bars with views into the bullpens and an abundance of televisions, the creation of standing room areas at the top of each pavilion, enhanced Americans with Disabilities Act seating and "home run seats" just beyond the outfield wall.
A midway at the lower level of the outfield pavilions displays memorabilia and has interactive exhibits and games.
The new sound system provides more directed sound inside the stadium, according to the Dodgers.
Certain areas and amenities will be unavailable to fans at the start of the season due to coronavirus protocols, a team official.
