ORLANDO, Fla.---
Inside a wearhouse just outside downtown Orlando you'll find a group of 3rd and 4th graders training like pros.
"We are not a regular six on six team," Tion Green says to his huddle. "We are a professional six on six team."
Green isn't your typical youth coach.
"You ever watch Forest Gump," he says when asked about his style. "Life is like a box of chocolates, never know what you're going to get."
As a running back Green held a variety of roles hence the Forest Gump analogy. At Lake Brantley High School he was a star. At the University of Cincinnati he was a power back, in the NFL he was asked to play an every down role.
"God has blessed me into a situation where I can give back and stress to them like I was in ya'lls shoes," Green says.
After spending time with the Detroit Lions and Indianapolis Colts franchises, the Sanford native is back in his home state training people of all ages and coaching kids. His team plays in the Under Armour Under the Lights League in Winter Park.
"I dealt with the daily struggles of not knowing when you're going to get cut," Green says of his time in the NFL. "So my love for the game changed, it became more of a business."
Working with these kids has reignited his passion for the sport.
"Just seeing their love of the game man," Green says. "The way when I give them their uniforms, the way they have fun making plays. That means the world to me because I was that same child."
He's not ready to put the NFL in the past. As he trains others he's finding time to stay in game shape too. If a team calls he'll be prepared, but in the meantime he's putting everything he has into coaching the youth.
"At the end of the day I believe in my faith," Green says. "If it's meant to happen it's meant to happen. So other than that I'm enjoying myself. Being with my kids coaching my own team and I live through them right now."
