LAKE MARY, Fla - Lake Mary Prep girl’s golf are the defending 1A state champs. This year they added a nationally ranked player to the team. "I’ve been golfing for nine years, says McKenzie Mages, junior golfer at Lake Mary Prep.  "My favorite part of the game is driving just because it comes naturally to me."

"Great Player, her scores have helped us win a lot of matches," says golf coach Mike Jamison.

Originally from Marietta GA, she moved down to Florida because she is able to play all year long. "Winters in Georgia were a little too cold for me, twenties, I didn’t like it," says Mages.  "Moving here is definitely different but the school has been really accepting, I’m just really happy to be here."

At Lake Mary Prep, team chemistry is important. "You never know with a new girl coming in, especially a girl at that level, she is a tremendous talent, you just don’t know how she is going to fit in," says coach Jamison. "That has not been an issue with McKenzie, anything she has helped our team chemistry."  "It feels natural it doesn’t feel like its new.  It feels like we have been playing golf together for a really long time, " says Mages.

Lake Mary Prep has four state championships in the last six years and the goal is to keep that winning tradition going. "To win states, to defend the title from last year," says Mages.

"Our original goal is to defend our district championship, which we did.  Also to defend our 1A state championship which is coming up soon," says coach Jamison. "We have a good chance to do that."
