ORLANDO, FL - Four months ago, Kerry Blackshear was finding ways to stay busy.
A rotating schedule between lifting weights, getting in shots and video games consumed the early part of quarantine for the Evans alum and Florida grad.
It was all part of a guessing game waiting for the NBA Draft plans to come into clearer view.
“Not having the tournament. Not having a chance to work out with teams. Not having a proper NBA draft process like most teams would," Blackshear said. "I wouldn’t have expected any of this to happen.”
So the big man took action opting to play overseas in Israel.
First time out of the country without my family and stuff like that. It’s been a good experience. I can’t complain so looking forward to playing games like that though too.”
Blackshear is playing for Gilboa Galil in Gan Ner, Israel.
“This pandemic has taught me two lessons. Always be prepared. Always be prepared towards what is next. That’s kind of all what I’ve been trying to think of. Think of my ultimate goal which is to be in the NBA.”
Right now the timing for that goal is pushed back. When the draft does happen, Blackshear expects his overseas experience to improve his stock.
“I’ve been able to devote 100% of my time to basketball and then having a pretty veteran experience from the college game and transitioning into a pro lifestyle. I think that’s something that will definitely help me.”
