NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla.-- For the Liller brothers skateboarding is a way of life.
“Ive been skating for 5 or six years,” said Cole Liller, a 8-year-old skateboarder.
“I started skateboarding when I was around 6 or seven years old,” said Gavin Liller, a 13-year-old skateboarder.
“Just the feeling of being on your board and skating around,” said Cole.
At just 13 and eight-years-old, these two already know what it means to be dedicated.
“They spend two to three hours a day. At least, yesterday they were here for five ours. They can spend a good at least 30 hours a week here,” said Cole and Gavin’s mom and dad, Jamie and Katie.
“If it’s not raining or we’re not out of town over the weekends then we are usually here,” said Gavin.
“They honestly love it. If we are sitting at home they are begging for us to bring them. Can you just drop us off at the park, just take us to the park. They get bored without it,” said Katie.
Constantly perfecting their craft
“Every time I fall I just keep trying the trick and keep trying the trick until I get it,” said Gavin.
“Once you get the trick it’s the best feeling ever. It’s like wow I just did that,” said Cole.
While learning new tricks every day.
“Landing a new trick and that feeling when you are riding away feels really good,” said Gavin.
Their commitment is paying off because they both win a lot.
Gavin has 17 statewide winds in the last three years.
Cole already has won four events this season.
“In competitions you just have to have your mind to it and know the next trick you’re going to do,” said Cole.
The best part about their success, they are motivating each other along the way.
“We can both build off of each other as well. So if he learns something then I can try it and he can help me out and the same goes for me, I can help him out,” said Gavin.
“It’s a good feeling to know that I have somebody to skate with and I have a good brother,” said Cole.
All while learning life lessons every day.
“I mean they fall so much, they get hurt so much but they get up and keep going and I think that teaches them a lot in life,” said Katie.
