MONTVERDE, FL -- It's hard to keep UCF quarterback DJ Mack away from a football field. Even in the offseason, you'll find the redshirt sophomore with a ball in his hand while leading others.
That held true on the morning of March 2 at Montverde Academy.
“Not everyone gets blessed with the opportunities we have as a team so being out here today is fun,” Mack said.
Mack was one of forty UCF student athletes in attendance assisting the Central Florida Dreamplex in two separate football clinics for children and young adults with mental and physical disabilities.
“This is the third year they’ve come out and the kids just gravitate to them every single year they’re here," said Cameron Gomes, Executive Director The kids just know these are big time athletes and we’re always appreciative of what UCF does for us.”
“The program itself, we stand for a lot, but a day like to today shows you that it’s not all about us," UCF safety Richie Grant said. "It’s about giving back to the community. I’m big on that. I know a lot of guys on this team are big on that.”
The athletes themselves did their part to inspire the Knights. In return, UCF brought nothing but pure joy.
“I had millions and trillions of fun," said athlete William Petty. "I was all over the field.”
For that spring morning at Montverde, football lovers and players met on one field and the impact was greater than anyone could have imagined.
“It’s been so inspirational," Petty said. "I was in such a lonely place before the Dreamplex arrived.”
