Miracle Porter had goals coming into Matanzas High School. She wanted to score 230 of them – 230 goals – in order to break the state scoring record of 229 career goals made back in 1997. Playing DeLand last Friday Miracle scored twice, finally breaking the record.
“It was a relief, it was a real relief,” said Miracle. “It was so much pressure at the beginning I was nervous going into the game, but after I got the first goal, and the I got the second goal, it was just relief. I’m just glad.”
Standing now with 234 goals Miracle’s name is in the state record books. But she isn’t stopping there. The senior with her eyes set on scoring nine more to take 3rd all time nationally at 243.
“Her biggest asset is her composure,” said coach Antonio Benvenuto. “She can be double-teamed, triple-teamed, shoved and pulled on, and yet she keeps her composure and keeps on going because she knows she can outrun, out dribble, outshoot any defender that has been in her way.”
Coach Benvenuto remembers watching the stud as just a young kid, and claims he knew even then that she was going to be special.
“I really believe that Miracle was born with this talent. You seldom see players that can excel at an early age. I had the pleasure of watching her play as a little girl, maybe 4-5 years old, and since then she left an impression on me.”
From just a little girl, to now her senior year. Heading into district play Miracle and the rest of the Pirates have an opportunity to play deep into the postseason. And the more games they play, the better chance that Miracle can make a few more goals in order to reach her new national goal.
243, she is coming for you.
