Since 1977, La Moderna Bakery in Whittier has been making some of the best tamales you'll find in SoCal.

Still guiding the production is 91-year-old, Martha Chavez who runs the kitchen with family and long-time employees.

Celebrated late LA Times Food Critic, Jonathan Gold wrote about these wonderful tamales and as The SoCal Scene's Melvin Robert reports, what makes them great is all the love La Moderna puts into every hand-made tamale.
