Katie Streit finds inspiration every day in the people she meets and the community stories she shares as a multimedia journalist with Spectrum News 13. She started her journey at News 13 as the Lake/ Marion/ Sumter bureau reporter, and she's glad to continue reporting in the Central Florida covering Orange County.
Katie’s passion for storytelling led her to a career in journalism. Living and working in Central Florida, as a journalist, Katie knows the best way to approach a story and to earn the trust of the community is to be honest and transparent.
Katie joined the News 13 team in February 2022 after working as a multimedia journalist in Medford, Oregon. As a breaking news and general assignment reporter, she helped keep those in power accountable for their actions. Her coverage on the number of wildfires burning in Northern California and Southern Oregon led to additional federal emergency support (FEMA) for rural communities. Prior to that, she was a congressional intern in Washington, D.C. for a U.S. House Representative.
Born and raised in Las Vegas, Katie holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism and Media Studies from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. There, she won a student Emmy for her coverage of the one-year anniversary of the Las Vegas Route 91 Musical Festival shooting.
When Katie isn’t reporting, she enjoys volunteering and embraces a variety of passions from the arts to exploring Florida’s outdoors. She is always ready for a new adventure.
