CHARLESTON, S.C. - First Circuit Solicitor David Pascoe has announced he is switching political parties from Democrat to Republican.

This decision leaves just three Democratic solicitors in the state, with the other thirteen seats held by Republicans.

Pascoe was first sworn into his position in 2005 and most recently ran unopposed last year. During his career, he prosecuted convicted killer Mikal Mahdi, who is scheduled to be executed today. He also led the investigation of Bobby Harrell; the house speaker who was later indicted.

Pascoe also considered a bid for the Attorney General in 2010, but instead decided to drop out ahead of the primary.

David made the announcement that he will be switching parties at a Dorchester County Republican Party leadership debate Thursday evening. Pascoe's circuit is composed of Dorchester, Orangeburg, and Calhoun Counties.
