The city of Rochester is expecting a visit from the nation's border czar. This comes after Rochester police officers responded to a call for backup from Homeland Security Investigations agents in the city last week.
City leaders later said those officers did not follow sanctuary city policy because they were seen handcuffing people at that traffic stop.
Locust Club Executive Vice President Paul Dondorfer has since talked with Border Czar Tom Homan about the incident.
He says it would send a message to Rochester’s rank and file.
“It'll be huge," said Dondorfer. "Everyone will know, you know, and you know it. What that will do for the men and women in this police department is it will show them that the federal government has their back.”
There is no clear date set for Dondorfer's arrival.
City officials say they are not making any further comment for now.
