Hundreds of kids won’t go home from school hungry thanks to a popular annual event.
1. “Field to Fest” is an open-air event featuring locally sourced fare from Walt Disney World’s top chefs with wine, beer and cocktail pairings by Master Sommelier George Miliotes. “You spend the entire afternoon eating and drinking and having fun on the farm,” said event creator Pam Brandon, of Edible Orlando.
2. Every penny of proceeds benefits the Kids Cafe Program of Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida, an after-school meal service program that provides meals for children in Orange, Seminole, and Osceola counties.
3. This includes the Midway Safe Harbor’s Kids Café in Sanford. We visited the location with site facilitator Quinn Byrd, who provided a warm, nutritious meal for 131 kids during our stay. “I love this because I am a product of this community,” he said with a smile. “We didn’t have anything like this program when I went to school.”
4. There are 28 Kids Cafes in Central Florida.
5. At “Field to Feast,” guests will enjoy live music, farm tours, and a raffle as part of the event. It will be held from 2-5:30 p.m on Feb. 10, at Long & Scott Farms in Mount Dora.
