You might not know that SeaWorld Orlando is home to 4 of the 13 walruses in human care in the United States.
1. The beloved walruses live in the Wild Arctic habitat inside SeaWorld Orlando. The same habitat houses beluga whales and harbor seals.
2. Lauren Fletcher is a SeaWorld Zoological Specialist. She has been with SeaWorld for more than 18 years and takes pride in her knowledge of walruses. She enjoys showing off their behaviors to guests, like how vocal they tend to be.
3. For example, Kora is one of the park’s walruses. She is about 4-years-old, weighing in at 1,000 lbs. You might find Lauren mic-ed up with interactive demos of Kora and her crew making memorable sounds (and playing with toys).
4. Kora gets about 6 feeds a day, playing catch, too, as enrichment. “We like to give them a lot of variability, and as much choice and control in their day that we can offer.”
5. If you want to get even closer to the walruses, SeaWorld guests can book an Up-Close Tour with a member of the animal care team. You can also have your photos taken with the animal during your adventure.
