ORLANDO, Fla. — Odds are you know the story of Matilda Wormwood. Now, see her story come to life, with a twist on the story of a girl in a world where grown-ups make all the rules, in a school with a principal with no principles.
In real life, Miya Montague loves to learn.
The seventh-grader’s favorite subject is school. She loves science, technology, math and engineering (STEM) projects as much as she loves to sing, dance, and act.
There’s much she finds in common with the character she’s bringing to life on stage: Matilda Wormwood.
Montague and fellow co-star Delainey Silvestro will share the stage as “Matilda” in Theatre South Playhouse’s second run of “Matilda the Musical.”
“I think she’s a very deep character," Montague said. "She has a lot of thoughts and feelings, and we dig into what she’s feeling.”
The main character of Roald Dahl’s hit 1988 children’s book, "Matilda," has become a beloved favorite — from the big screen to stages throughout the world.
Theatre South Playhouse's artistic leaders say they hope audiences will enjoy the magic and music of the show, as well as the message.
“This show speaks to so many people on so many levels because it is about believing in yourself, believing in possibilities and impossibilities,” said Sterling Lovette, the show’s choreographer.
