Dozens of chefs will go head-to-head to win the event for the second year in a row. Battle Bros is in charge of the event.

The fun is also for a good cause, with Battle Bros donating part of the profits to The Children’s Hunger Project.

“They are a non profit organization that helps provide weekend meals to Brevard County students to help them get through the weekend," said Sean Beck, co-founder of Battle Bros Events.

Jason Roberts, who is competing in the event, has meat on his mind.

“It is all about the brisket to me. All I think about is brisket,” said Roberts, owner of the food truck Haley's Smokehouse.

On Monday, he was busy prepping 180 pounds of the stuff to make 2,000 burgers for the Space Coast Burger Battle happening this Saturday in Melbourne. Last year, he took home third place.

“With there being 25 to 30 trucks out there, and even some local restaurants in the area, it is a lot of good competition out there,” said Roberts.

Despite the days of work leading up to it, it is one of his favorite events of the year.

“The reason I like to do this is just the feedback from the people out there, and when they come back and actually tell, you know, the time you spent 18 to 20 hours cooking and prepping the meat they actually enjoy it, and it is just a good feeling to have,” said Roberts.

At the event, attendees can sample all kinds of interesting burgers priced at five bucks or less.

But there is a ton of other things to do to like gem mining, axe throwing and more.

“Not only the food, the vendors, the craft fair that they have going on, live music all day, alcohol, just a good time on a Saturday. Come out, bring the family kids are welcome,” said Roberts.

But Roberts has his eyes on the prize, ready to put his skills to the test to churn out burgers for the crowd.

“If you haven’t tried a smoked brisket burger you are really missing out,” said Roberts.

While those who try the burgers can vote for people’s choice, Roberts also wants to impress a panel of judges who will do a blind taste test to crown the winner of the burger battle.

“Give the judges something to think about when they bite into this one,” said Roberts, building one of his signature burgers.

This year, he’s feeling pretty confident.

“Thats a winner, that's a good burger," said Roberts.

The event is from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. this Saturday at Wickham Park. Tickets are $7. You can buy them here.
