LEESBURG, Fla. – The 2021 Lady of the Lakes Renaissance Faire kicks off this weekend in Tavares.
You might not have known that Lake County culinary students are preparing the noshes and chomps. So we visited the Leesburg Culinary Academy to get in on the action.
Abigail Fletcher is a Leesburg High School junior. We caught up with her in the Leesburg Culinary Academy kitchen as she was – literally “tearfully” - chopping onions for the Ren Faire.
We got to know Abby a bit more. “When I first came here as a freshman, I had very bad social skills and very bad anxiety,” she said, adding that cooking is like a therapy for her. “I'm focusing on something and I'm making something and I'm not in my head as much.”
Abby and her classmates all across Lake County are preparing the hearty grub for the Ren Faire. “We have a lot of food we have to prepare for beforehand because if we don't, we're going to run out,” she said. From turkey legs and hoagies, to Scottish Eggs and gyros, guests have no way to leave hungry.
The Lake of the Lakes Ren Faire is set in 1604. Everything is themed, in addition to live stage shows, jousting, swards, corsets and kilts.
The event is Nov. 6-7 and Nov. 13 - 14, just down the street from Idamere Park in Tavares. The best address to put into your GPS device is: 28598 Lady of the Lakes Avenue, Tavares.
