LEESBURG, Fla. — Bike enthusiasts are rolling into Leesburg to attend the city’s 28th annual Bikefest.
David Viares rode approximately 30 miles into downtown Leesburg from Inverness on his 2017 Harley-Davidson Fat Boy Screamin’ Eagle. He’s been attending the event for more than 20 years.
“I come out with the group to bond with the guys, new friendships, and venture around, look at the shops and things,” said Viares.
The three-day event takes place on Main Street, between 9th and Canal Street. However, there are additional stages, shows, and vendors that trickle into nearby streets as well.
Tiffany Hobgood, owner of Breakfast at Tiffany’s Leesburg on 5th Street, says the Saturday of Bikefest weekend has historically been her busiest day of the year.
She opened up her restaurant last April weeks before Bikefest and says she is using what she learned from her first experience this time around.
“We do have a minimized menu with no substitutions just cause we have a really, really small kitchen, a really small dining room so we try to keep it small if we can to keep the customers in and out,” said Hobgood.
Hobgood says she has extra staff working to help with the turnout. Spectrum News saw multiple businesses with welcoming signs and adjusted menus for this weekend.
“For us, it’s just to be a beacon of light and to be here for the community through the event,” she said.
Mayor Alan Reisman says an estimated quarter of a million attendees will attend Bikefest, including riders from other states.
The event runs 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.
