FRISCO, Texas — A teen accused of fatally stabbing another student at a high school track meet has been released from jail after his bond was reduced.
The 17-year-old was initially held on a $1 million bond, but at a court hearing April 14, the judge lowered his bond to $250,000. The judge also required the 17-year-old to be on house arrest and wear a leg monitor. He must be supervised by an adult or parents, not to be on social media and has to check in every Friday with a bailiff by phone call.
Spectrum News is not naming the suspect because he is a minor.
According to Frisco police, on April 2, an altercation broke out between the 17-year-old suspect and 17-year-old Austin Metcalf. The incident occurred at Kuykendall Stadium during a UIL District 11-5A event. Police said the two students were involved in an altercation over seating arrangements. The fight escalated and the 17-year-old allegedly stabbed Metcalf.
Metcalf was pronounced dead at the scene, despite efforts by emergency responders. Metcalf’s father told other media outlets Austin died in the arms of his twin brother, who attempted to save him.
Metcalf was an 11th grader at Memorial High School. A GoFundMe* started by Metcalf’s family has raised over $350,000 in his memory. A memorial service was held for Metcalf April 12.
