TEXAS — Several Texas cities were ranked as some of the unhealthiest cities to live in, aside from Austin, according to a new study by WalletHub.

Austin is keeping it weird by ranking in the top 15 healthiest places to live in America, coming in at No. 14. WalletHub looked at 41 different indicators of good health from the cost of a medical visit, fruit and vegetable consumption to the how physically active adults are in the area.

The study found several cities on the West Coast to be some of the healthiest cities to live in except for one southern city, Austin, Texas, with an overall score of 58.61.

Coming in at dead last at No. 182 was Brownsville, Texas. Sitting on the Texas coast, Brownsville came dead last in quality of healthy food and fitness activity of adults. Out of 182 cities, Brownsville ranked 180 for quality of health care and 169 in amount of green space.

“Staying healthy is a personal responsibility, and everyone should strive to eat nutritious food, exercise regularly and look after their mental health,” said Chip Lupo, a WalletHub analyst. “However, where people live can have a big influence on how successful they are at staying in good health, so the best cities are the ones that provide the greatest access to high-quality health care, green spaces, recreation centers and healthy food.”

Several other Texas cities made the list, but ranked much lower.
