Columbia, S.C. — The federal government has terminated hundreds of international student visas across the country, including South Carolina.

Multiple international students enrolled at the University of South Carolina have had their U.S. visas terminated.

In a statement to Spectrum News, USC’s Internal Communications Manager Collin Taylor says “The university was recently made aware that several international students have had their federal visas terminated. We have been in contact with those students. Due to student privacy rules, we are unable to provide additional details at this time.”

On April 5, the university’s Global Carolina Division of International Student and Scholar Support released guidance on proposed travel restrictions based on nationality.

The document states, “We understand that the government agencies are reviewing security processes and visa eligibility protocols for certain countries."

University leaders also recommend that all international students review the listed information and if there are any questions, to contact the appropriate department.
