The Judicial Selection Commission has transmitted its nominees for positions on the Intermediate Court of Appeals and the Circuit Court of the First Circuit to Gov. Josh Green for consideration.

  • The ICA vacancy was created by Judge Lisa Ginoza’s elevation to associate justice of the Hawaii Supreme Court
  • Two nominees must also be selected to fill one existing vacancy left by Judge Shanlyn Park and another by the anticipated departure of Judge Dean Ochiai
  • Green has until April 16 to make his appointments from the respective lists

 

The ICA vacancy was created by Judge Lisa Ginoza’s elevation to associate justice of the Hawaii Supreme Court. Two nominees must also be selected to fill one existing vacancy left by Judge Shanlyn Park and another by the anticipated departure of Judge Dean Ochiai.

The nominees for ICA are:

  • James Ashford, deputy chief judge (civil), First Circuit Court
  • Lance Collins, president and principal attorney, Law Office of Lance D. Collins
  • Daniel Gluck, deputy corporation counsel, City and County of Honolulu
  • Nickolas Kacprowski, partner, Dentons US LLP
  • Karen Nakasone, associate judge, Intermediate Court of appeals

The nominees for Circuit Court of the First Circuit are:

  • Earl Aquino, deputy public defender, Office of the Public Defender
  • Russ Awakuni, managing attorney, Leeward and Windward Oahu offices of the Legal Aid Society of Hawaii
  • Lance Collins, president and principal attorney, Law Office of Lance D. Collins
  • Harvey Demetrakopoulos, attorney
  • Timothy Ho, judge, District Court of the First Circuit
  • Karin Holma, district judge, District Court of the First Circuit (temporarily assigned as a Circuit Judge, Circuit Court of the First Circuit).
  • Taryn Gifford, supervising attorney, deputy public defender, Office of the Public Defender
  • RochelleVidinha (Cusumano),  deputy prosecuting attorney, Department of the Prosecuting Attorney

Green has until April 16 to make his appointments from the respective lists. The public is invited to provide comments on the nominees via the governor’s website.
