TREASURE ISLAND, Fla. — With spring break officially underway, students and families will travel to many of Tampa Bay’s beaches over the next couple of weeks.

What You Need To Know

  • Officials with the city of Treasure Island say they're ready to welcome spring break visitors for the coming weeks

  • Some beaches, like Sunset Beach, are still recovering and having repairs done after being hit by last year's hurricanes
  • Because of recovery efforts, city officials are asking visitors to be mindful of their surroundings — namely dunes as restoration efforts take place
  • Businesses are also still recovering, with some still closed at this time, but most hotels are open and taking guests

Some area beaches, however, are still making a full comeback after the recent hurricane season, including Treasure Island.

The city is ready to welcome back guests.

Officials say they just want visitors to be a little mindful of their surroundings — specifically, staying off dunes and respecting the beach. Those dunes help protect the mainland and were hit particularly hard by hurricanes Helene and Milton.

Restoration projects are still taking place across the island to replenish the beaches.

City officials say they’re already seeing decent crowds of beach goers and visitors. Sunset Beach is still going through a bigger recovery than the rest of the island as that area saw extensive damage last hurricane season.

“You’ve got Caddy’s out there that has their area,” said Jason Beisel, public information officer for the city of Treasure Island. “They have a tent now. They’re still rebuilding, but the city has allowed them to put up a tent so they can start bringing in business and Ka’Tikis. You’ve got areas to go hang out there, but just be respectful of the residents when you go out there.”

There are still a few businesses on the island that are recovering and may be still closed currently. But Beisel also said most of the hotels are open and taking guests. As for parking, Beisel says there is only one lot that is closed for repairs.

Most of the spring break visitors are families that go to hotels, so there should be plenty of parking available as they’re ready to welcome visitors.
