BROOKSVILLE, Fla. — The year 1856 is calling.

What You Need To Know

It wants its house back.

The Historic May-Stringer house in Brooksville.

The house once sat on more than 150 acres of wild land.

Now it’s right in downtown Brooksville, where a group of devoted Hernando Historical Museum Association members care for the structure.

Jesse Lisk is one of them.

The paranormal researcher has recorded unexplained events — like a latch on a kitchen cabinet opening without aid.

A photo album holds pictures with unexplained shadows, orbs and even human-like shapes.

Owners added onto the Victorian-era home in 1880 — with seven gables and gingerbread trim.

The nursery is on the second floor, and Lisk believes there are three ghosts there.

“Jessie Mae was a little girl that passed away here when she was three. Her spirit still remains in this room along with her mother, Marina,” said Lisk.

The third spirit is connected to a pre-civil war porcelain doll that lays in a small crib with two other dolls — all dressed in white.

“We call her Baby. She has the attachment of a little girl, and she haunts this room as well,” said Lisk.

Lisk may be walking among ghosts, but it’s the humans who fill his spirit.

“I mean, come on, who wouldn’t love this? It’s a great to learn all this history and to meet so many people — friends that are lifelong friends — all doing this. I wouldn’t change anything,” Lisk said, smiling.

Lisk says he will keep guiding ghost tours until he has ghost haunting responsibilities of his own.

If you are brave enough, you can check out these tours on Friday and Saturday nights at the May-Stringer House throughout the year.
