“Once I found out what it was, I couldn’t resist buying it,” said DeVoe Moore.

Basically, anything on wheels that left a mark on this world, Moore enjoys collecting it at his Tallahassee Automobile Museum.

The businessman is a Florida State University alumni and a major booster.

We’re talking “buildings named after you” booster.

There are at least 280 autos ranging from the late 1800s to the modern era.

A lover of anything with horsepower on wheels, Moore actually got his start in life shoeing horses — as a blacksmith.

“It’s very backbreaking work. Very hard work. But it’s rewarding,” said Moore.

The informational display he keeps at the museum, along with his tools, tells the able-bodied, “don’t be afraid of physical labor.”

It’s how he came to afford to save history.

In addition to cars, the museum also holds a collection of pocket knives, dolls, boat motors, sports memorabilia and Steinway pianos.

Moore’s work there is not for him.

“Oh, I think it’s great for the younger generation to be able to see what’s going by in the past, what we’ve got to look forward to in the future and preserve the history,” said Moore.

Moore is documenting the evolution of the transportation as a reflection of the society creating it.
