The Volusia County Council moved to extend the lease at the current location for six months.

For the past five years, the Supervisor of Elections Office in Volusia County has been in a space they have leased at 1750 S. Woodland Blvd., in DeLand.

“It is up at the end of April of this year, but our new building is not quite ready for us," Volusia County Supervisor of Elections Lisa Lewis said. "We have a target date of July, hopefully, maybe June. However, anyway, we needed to extend the lease here, so we did an extension of a six-month lease."

The new extension gives county officials until the end of October to complete the big move, which Lewis said will give them enough time to coordinate with two municipal cities for upcoming elections.

“We do have to wait on that to see when our timing would be, when we will be able to move, because I don’t want to move in the middle of an election once we start,” Lewis said.

She said one of the main reasons for this move is that the county is growing.

“Space is the biggest issue,” Lewis said. “We’re getting more registered voters, so we need more equipment for that. And, you know, we’re in two locations. We have our office here and then we have our warehouse, which is about 5 miles away from here. So, we’re bringing everything together with the new space because it is bigger.”

On April 16, 2024, the county purchased the Gateway Village Shopping Center to allow the supervisor of elections to have office and warehouse space in the same facility.

“I think it will be better organized, you know, with us being all together, you know, having the equipment there," Lewis said.

At the new location, work is currently underway, which includes installing a new roof, new HVAC system and other indoor renovations.

“We went last week and saw that walls are up and drywall so we can see the rooms," Lewis said. "So, it’s pretty exciting to see it come to fruition, what we have planned and drawn out."
