ORLANDO, Fla. — Orlando Police said they were forced to shoot a man to death overnight.
It happened early Saturday morning around 2:30 a.m. near Highland Avenue and East Colonial Drive.
Officials with the Orlando Police Department said they received a call from a victim stating a man he knew was beating on the door with a gun.
When officers located the suspect a few doors down, he was carrying an AR-15-style rifle.
“The officers gave verbal commands to drop the weapon. The suspect turned towards the officers, and three officers fired their weapons. The suspect is now deceased,” said Orlando Police Chief Eric Smith during a press conference.
Smith said the suspect was a 62-year-old white male. The incident happened in an area that people rent workspace and that the suspect and the person who called 911 do know each other.
The incident is under investigation.
