MILWAUKEE — As Wisconsin continues to deal with the fallout of what's been dubbed the "quad-demic," with sporadic spikes this season of COVID-19, flu, RSV and norovirus activity, emergency departments and ERs statewide haven't been immune, as health care workers do their best to care both for their patients and for themselves.
"There's been a lot of influenza and COVID that we're seeing— obviously we're seeing a lot of that coming through our emergency department here," said Dr. Mitchell Voter with Emplify Health Gundersen Region in La Crosse. "It's making us work double-time with everything."
While those with various underlying conditions may have been hardest by the spread of respiratory illnesses this winter, the viruses have been strong enough to impact younger, healthier Wisconsinites as well.
"Pretty much everyone's getting it," Dr. Voter said. "A lot of healthier people are definitely getting knocked down by it."
