ORLANDO, Fla. — State Sen. Geraldine Thompson has died, following complications from a knee replacement surgery, according to a release from her family.
The longtime Orlando-area lawmaker was 76 years old.
In a statement, Thompson’s family wrote:
“Her tireless work in education, healthcare, and civil rights, including her leadership to establish the Wells’Built museum of African American History and Culture in Orlando reflected her unwavering commitment to creating a better world for future generations.”
Thompson had served in the Florida Senate since 2022. That was after a previous stint in the upper chamber from 2012 to 2016.
She served in the state House from 2006 to 2012 and from 2018 to 2022.
