“We tell our students to be safe,” Salamanca said. “Narcoossee is a dangerous road. We are constantly pushing the message of how to drive safely, how to cross safely. They’re students and they are going to sometimes listen and sometimes not, but we as a school district and as teachers try to get that message across of safety as much as we can.”

Tascone said the crash was a true eye opener for him.

“It’s someone that I just saw a couple of days ago, you know, one of my friends,” Tascone said. “It’s completely crazy how a life can be taken so quickly.”

While the school community continues to mourn, Orlando police say there is still an active investigation into the crash, and they are looking for anyone who may have photos or video of what took place.
