ORLANDO, Fla. — For the last four years this week’s Everyday Hero, Carl Battle has spent many hours working with students at the historic Evans High school by way of a special after-school program spearheaded by the United Foundation of Central Florida.

For the last 15 years, Carl Battle has served as a youth pastor, but for the last four years, has put his experience working with kids to good use, volunteering after school mentoring students with the United Foundation of Central Florida. 

“I just want to be apart and try to impart some things in their life basically some things I’ve been through in my life, I can try to help them so they won’t go and make bad decisions in their lives,” Battle said.

The students all attend historic Evans High School and are part of future leaders united. It’s a special program powered by the United Foundation of Central Florida. The non-profit works to help keep students on track, giving over one thousand students access to mentoring since inception.

“Working with youth in the community it takes a lot of patience, it takes a lot of time, it takes support. Mentoring and coaching never stops. We are always mentoring and coaching the youth in the community,” Carl Battle said.

Darius Deveaux enjoys learning from Battle, calling him in short a true hero,”

“Keeps it real. He never holds back anything about the world. He always keeps it 100% with us,” Deveaux said.

Sandra Fatmi Hall is United Foundation of Central Florida’s executive director. She said having Battle on the team is a blessing. He’s someone who understands what it takes to make a lasting impact on these young lives.

 “He just jumped in with both hands, both feet and I’m telling you from day one we knew he was a genuine soul that cared about the community, cared about young people, he has showed it in his actions,” Sandra Fatmi-Hall said.

Carl Battle is happy to help carry on the Evans legacy by helping to give these students a fighting chance…he says he will be here long as he can, changing lives one student and lesson at a time.

“We just want to continue to be impactful within our community.”
