The family of former Spectrum News Multimedia Journalist Dylan Lyons has filed suit against the parent company of Spectrum News 13.

Dylan Lyons was killed while covering a story in Pine Hills in February of 2023. Police allege Keith Moses went on a shooting spree that day killing 38-year-old Nathacha Augustin, 9-year-old T'Yonna Major and Lyons. T’Yonna’s mother and a Spectrum News 13 photojournalist were also injured. Through their attorney Mark Nejame, the Lyons family is alleging systemic failures and a pattern of conscious disregard in Dylan Lyons' death.

The company responded to the lawsuit saying; Dylan’s murder was an unforeseeable and horrible tragedy. We hope that Keith Moses, who has been charged, will soon be brought to justice for the murder of Dylan and the others that day. With regards to these specific allegations, Dylan was the victim of a senseless act of violence. The claims against Spectrum News are unfounded and we will seek to have them dismissed.

Keith Moses has pleaded not guilty and is scheduled to stand trial in September of this year on multiple charges including first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, burglary, and shooting at/into an occupied vehicle. The State Attorney’s office has said it will seek the death penalty.

The family’s attorney says they also plan to file suit against the Orange County Sheriff’s Office alleging civil rights violations and wrongful death.
